In our Fish for Tomorrow project we have been working with fishermen and community members in four districts of Malawi to help them fish more sustainably so that there are fish in the lake in the future as well as today.
UNESCO have now asked us to introduce the project in the Lake Malawi National park, a UNESCO World Heritage site near Cape Maclear in Mangochi District which is home to hundreds of different species of cichlids.
The project, co-funded by the Government of Norway through its contribution to the World Heritage Fund, started in August and our team have been working closely with the National Parks and Wildlife Department, District Fisheries Department, Traditional Authorities and Chiefs, Beach Village Committees and Village Natural Resources Committee amongst others.
We look forward to sharing our progress with you over the coming months and years as this area is of global importance for biodiversity conservation due to its fish diversity.
