After an increase in positive Covid-19 cases and deaths in Malawi, the Malawian government has announced new restrictions including the closure of schools for three weeks, mandatory mask wearing and a curfew between 9pm and 5am.
Other restrictions include markets closing by 5pm, handwashing facilities to be fitted at all public buildings, and restrictions on the number of people allowed to attend meetings and religious gatherings.
President Lazarus Chakwera said, “Of all the people confirmed to have contracted the virus since April last year, 43% of these have been found since 1st January 2021, showing a sharp rise in infections and a lapse in prevention”
We have adapted to these new measures to ensure our teams and the communities we work with stay safe. This includes staff wearing masks at all times when they are out and about, washing their hands frequently and observing social distancing measures. We have also closed our preschools once again and they will remain closed until government guidelines allow schools to reopen.
