The combination of forest conservation committees carrying out patrols, creating firebreaks and educating community members is why forests like this one still exist in northern Malawi.
We are proud of the 184 committees working together to protect 340 sq.km of forest. Patrols are a regular occurrence and at different times of year they create firebreaks to reduce the risk of wild fires spreading.
When we meet with the conservation committees, it’s positive to hear that they are seeing natural regeneration taking place and fewer people entering the forests to chop down trees.
It’s just as important to conserve existing trees as it is to plant new ones so well done to everyone involved, it sure looks pretty up here where the birds are flying!
