Trizah, one of our tree planting coordinators, took us to meet Greatest, her oldest tree planting farmer – and she really lives up to her name. 80-year-old Greatest has five children and 15 grandchildren. When she heard about the tree planting project, she asked Trizah if she could be involved.
With the help of two of her grandchildren and our team, 2,000 seedlings have been raised and are ready to be planted out next month.
Three of her five children have jobs: a teacher, a nurse, and one an Immigration Officer. They have helped their mother by building her a house and they employ a young family to help around the house.
However, it was clear from meeting and speaking with Greatest that she was proud and wanted to give something back to her family. She said, “I know I will not live to see the fruits of my labour but I wanted to plant trees to secure my grandchildren’s future.”
