Susan is one of many hardworking Malawian mothers who is dedicated to providing for her family. She is one of the farmers we are working with on the orange-fleshed sweet potato project and this year she has grown Royal Choice and Mathuthu varieties.
The sweet potatoes are not only to feed her family but they support her sons who are in Form 1 and 2 at Secondary School.
Susan was provided with 10 bundles of sweet potato vines. She expanded her farming plot to 30 by 30 meters. From the harvest she sells some to be able to pay school fees for her sons.
She said, “I want to boost my yield and teach my neighbours new sweet potato recipes spreading knowledge and food security.”
