Irene Phiri with her child at the repaired borehole

No choice

Irene Phiri is 39 years old and has four children aged between 7 months and 21 years old. When her local borehole was broken, Irene drew water from a well 15 minutes walk away. The water was dirty but she had no choice. The queue was long and she spent three hours every morning waiting in the heat.

Ireen and her family experienced diarrhoea and stomach problems as a result, and her children missed out on school due to being sick. But, now that their borehole has been repaired, her family is well and the children are attending school.

She uses the time saved to attend local classes and sell fish at the nearby market. Do you want to help more people like Irene? Donate today.
