This International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we’d love to introduce you to 20-year-old Fortune.
She contracted meningitis when she was 14 years old. This caused her to have strokes and sadly affected the use of her arms and legs. Two months ago she moved to Matete to live with her father, and she has been a client of our Disabilities and Rehabilitation Project ever since.
Loveness visits Fortune weekly for at home physiotherapy sessions. Beyond the therapy, there are many smiles and giggles between the two of them.
Loveness has built parallel walking bars from bamboo so that Fortune can strengthen her legs with the help of ankle weights, and a little over a week ago, Fortune received a new wheelchair from a Ripple Africa volunteer.
She was over the moon as you can see by the photos. This wheelchair not only gives her freedom, but it allows her to return to school which she has missed for many years.
