Maria and Joseph are hard working farmers and role models in their community. The couple were excited when they were selected as beneficiaries of our orange-fleshed sweet potato project. Maria said, “We had heard how nutritious they are compared to the local variety which we grew previously.”
The couple are waiting for their first sweet potato harvest, and during our visit, were proud to show us their ginger farm and they explained that they grow maize, cassava, yams, and groundnuts too.
Joseph continued, “We want to provide for our children so we farm to earn money. Over time we have saved and I now have a motorbike which I use to taxi people to the town as we are a long distance away.”
