Protecting what remains, restoring what was lost. In Mzimba District, the mission is to revive Choma Hill after damage from illegal charcoal production, while in Nkhata Bay, the focus is on safeguarding existing forests.
Forest Conservation Committees are on the ground patrolling, creating firebreaks to prevent wildfires, clearing weeds, and encouraging new tree growth. Alongside Forestry Guards in Mzimba District, they’re also tackling illegal activity head-on with patrols and roadblocks.
In 2025 alone, these efforts led to the confiscation of: – 411 bags of charcoal – 80 timber planks – 14 bicycles – 2 motorbikes – 2 cars Real impact. Real protection.
