A message from our Chief Operating Officer (COO), Nikki Khoram:
“A week ago today I had the absolute privilege to represent Ripple Africa at the .ORG Impact Awards in Washington D.C., organised and hosted by the Public Interest Registry (PIR).
To be one of 35 finalists out of 4,242 organisations is an incredible achievement and recognition of our incredibly hardworking and dedicated Malawian teams who, along with thousands of local volunteers, educate and empower communities to protect and sustainably manage their natural resources and in turn, create brighter futures for themselves, their families and their community.
Although we did not win our category, Environmental Stewardship, we won in other ways as the three day event was an opportunity to meet and network with like-minded individuals and organisations.
Malawi is the Warm Heart of Africa and whilst the country and its people face a lot of hardship, it is a country full of love, happiness and opportunity.
What started 23 years ago with education and healthcare projects, Ripple Africa has become an inspiring environmental organisation with people and livelihoods at the heart of it by providing a hand up, not a hand out. The local people can and are the solution to the challenges they face and I am truly honoured to be part of the Ripple Africa family.
I also enjoyed meeting The Sparkle Foundation, a fellow Malawian charity. The chance to connect, share ideas and exchange best practice was a great opportunity.
Thank you also to PIR who sponsored the trip to ensure as many finalist organisations could be present in the room.”
