Jacob is not only a sweet potato farmer but one of the Lead Farmers that supports our team. A father-of-two, Jacob explained that he has been farming for years to provide for his family.
He said, “I sells bananas at Mpamba Trading Centre, and I farm maize, cassava, yams and ginger. Ginger makes the most money and I have two beehives which make good money too.”
This is his first year growing the improved variety of sweet potato and Jacob has big plans for the future. He continued, “I want to build a good house and pay school fees for my sons.”
Jacob has six acres of unused land. During our visit and hearing his dreams for the future, our team spent time with him calculating the potential income he could generate from his unused land. He wants to turn the paper learnings into reality and we look forward to visiting him again in the future to see how he is progressing.
