Team work to plant trees in Malawi

Tree teamwork

Thirteen might be unlucky for some but in Chiunda Village, it is the perfect number of families involved with tree planting. This is their first year working with Ripple Africa yet they have already shown their commitment to improving the environment around them.

In 2013 they started a community forest and this year they are excited to be raising 10,000 tree seedlings of which 3,000 will be added to the community forest and the remainder split for their personal woodlots.

Clement, the Group Chairman, said, “Forests are depleting here in Malawi so tree planting is important. We are experiencing the impact of climate change already. We had a drought and then we had flash flooding so our harvest was small compared to previous years.”
