On World Toilet Day meet Jessie, Theresa, Loveness, Alice and Florence who all attend Mazembe Primary School. Thanks to funding, girls now have access to a menstrual toilet, which has been built to provide them with a private space to use whilst on their periods and means they don’t have to miss school.
Typically, many girls miss a week of school each month because of their periods. The girls said they all love their menstrual toilet because it means they can come to school when they’re having their period and are able to change and wash discreetly.
At Ripple Africa we listen to the schools’ needs and it is encouraging that female education is being pushed to the forefront of all teachers minds.
