Last month Force, our Country Director, visited Kamphomombo village under Chikwina EPA to see how the sweet potato harvest was going.
The farmers weigh their harvest to monitor the success of each variety of sweet potato they are growing. Of the four varieties – Kaphulira, Mathuthu, Chipika and Kadyaubwerere – the Kaphulira variety was highest yielding.
Within this EPA (Extension Planning Area) there are almost 250 farmers and this project is all about planting, sharing and eating!
Each family starts with bundles of vines and once planted, they not only produce sweet potatoes but more vines which they share with other families.
