Bicycles are confiscated during successful patrol

Successful patrols

While the Tree Planting teams work with the community to plant trees, our Forest Conservation teams are busy trying to protect the existing trees.

Charcoal confiscation patrols take place in and around Choma Hill on a monthly basis with an average of 24 sacks of charcoal confiscated. During some patrols bicycles, motorbikes, and timber planks have also been confiscated.

Speaking with Bryne, our Forest Conservation Manager in the area, he said, “One challenge we face is that motorbike users alert the charcoal traffickers to our location so they run away.”
