We have been able to provide three of the primary schools we support with new batteries so that their solar lighting works in their Standard 8 classrooms.
Previous funding allowed us to do the initial installations but the batteries, unfortunately, do not last forever. However, the solar lighting is really important and the impact is huge.
The Standard 8 pupils attend extra lessons ahead of their end of primary examinations. These sessions are held during the evenings and more often than not, the students sleep in the classroom too so that they are not walking home in the dark.
The end of primary examinations are taken really seriously as the results determine whether a student gets a place at secondary school. Learn more about Education in Malawi here.
