Support communities to protect fish in Lake Malawi
Yes, I'm in
3 simple steps to sustainable fishing
1. Teaching fishing communities how they can manage their fish resource sustainably
2. Communities take ownership and protect fish breeding areas
3. Ensure fishermen use larger meshed fishing nets to catch only the big fish, allowing baby fish to grow and breed
Every £1 you donate protects fish breeding areas
We have established 310 Beach Village Committees who are protecting 85 Chambo fish breeding grounds along 400 km of shoreline.
Local bylaws have been introduced and a fishing closed season adopted by fishermen. Beach Village Committees are now empowered to manage their local fish resource thus protecting biodiversity and improving fish catches.
There are still fishing Districts in Malawi which haven’t yet benefited from this community initiative.

We will keep you updated
We won’t just protect fish for you, we will keep you updated too. Every three months we will send you stories on the progress of our fish conservation project and from the fishermen and other fish beneficiaries such as these fish-selling sisters.
