With the expansion of our fuel-efficient cookstove project we have seen women decorating their cookstoves and kitchens and now in Mzimba District, women in one village have started writing passages on the outside of their kitchen promoting the benefits of the cookstoves.
Here are two of the women who are enjoying their cookstove, locally known as a Changu Changu Moto (Fast Fast Fire). They wrote: “Ripple Africa, less firewood, more fire, less smoke” and “Welcome visitors, easy cooking with Changu Changu Moto”
We are really proud to be delivering this project in Mzimba, Nkhotakota and Salima Districts. Not only are the benefits for the environment huge but there are so many benefits for women too.
Women in Malawi do the majority of household chores including collecting the firewood, and preparing and cooking the food so being able to save women, on average, 10 hours per week from collecting wood and enabling them to only need to collect small branches, is extremely positive.
Our fuel-efficient cookstoves help with the cooking too. Not only can two things be cooked simultaneously but they cook faster compared to a traditional three stone fire. Oh, and did we mention they’re safer too – a win win for women and the environment!
