Climate change is affecting people and wildlife across the globe but did you know that Malawi contributes less than 1% to it? Developed countries emit far more and as a result are causing serious problems for countries like Malawi. But there is another huge problem facing the country that is under their control.
Malawi’s population is growing by 2.7% every year. While this might not sound much, this small landlocked country already has more than 20 million people, half of them under the age of 18. The impact on the country’s natural resources is huge.
Our Family Planning and Sexual Health Project isn’t about making people access contraceptives but offering information, advice and support and highlighting the impact that this high population growth rate will have on future generations of Malawians.
We work with students at primary and secondary schools to discuss family size and its impact on resources and finances and answer any questions that are raised. Find out more about the project here.
