Mary Mwale had only had her fuel-efficient cookstove for one week when we visited her but already she was convinced that this was a better cooking method. Why? Both Mary and two of her children had experienced bad burns from using the traditional three-stone fire.
A mother-of-five, Mary told us another of the benefits. She said, “I am a farmer and because I only need to collect wood once per week because this cookstove uses less wood, I will have more time to farm. I grow rice, maize, beans and cassava to provide for my family.”Â
