Rows of eucalyptus trees are planted with rows of sweet potatoes in Malawi

Planting sweet potato and trees

Maggie is not only a tree planting farmer but she also grows improved orange-fleshed sweet potatoes.

Mother to five, Maggie looks for any opportunity to improve the lives of her children. She isn’t afraid of hard work as she knows that her efforts, and that of her children, will give them a better life.

Last year she planted 4,000 blue gum trees and in between them, has planted rows of the improved sweet potatoes.

The family recently harvested them and she said, “My children are so happy, they love these sweet potatoes because they are so sweet but as a mother I know that they are good for them as they high in vitamin A.”
