We love visiting our tree farmers to see how they are getting on and to learn their motivation for planting trees. As the years go by, we re-visit the farmers to see how their trees are growing. We have visited Andrew and Elliott many a time and parked by this tree but we never knew the story behind it.
On our latest visit to see how their trees are growing, their 95-year-old grandfather was sitting on the porch. We went and said hello and asked him what he thought of his grandsons planting trees.
He was very happy and he was very proud of them. But he was also pleased to be able to share the story of when he planted a tree, that tree, the tree we had parked by. He had planted it back in 1966 when he was 38, a similar age to his grandsons now.
Looking back at the towering tree it was clear to see how proud Andrew and Elliott were of their grandfather too, and if trees could talk, there’d be many a story to be heard.
