A couple stand in their tree nursery in Malawi

New to tree planting

62-year-old Lackson and his wife Ephines have seven children and see tree planting as an opportunity to create a positive future.

This is their first year planting and they plan to sow 1,000 pine tree seeds in their nursery. They are currently busy filling the tubes and have a very neat tree nursery.

Lackson said they look forward to a reliable source of firewood as they will coppice branches as the trees grow and in the longer-term when their trees are mature, will sell the timber. They will then be able to fund everyday necessities and provide their children with a better future.
