Memory Phiri has had a fuel-efficient cookstove, known locally as a Changu Changu Moto, for two years. She is proud that she built it with the Community Volunteer so if it needs maintaining, she can do it.
Memory is also happy because she has been able to establish a small garden (allotment) next to her home.
She said, “We all have farms where we grow crops but they are a distance from our house. With the time I save from collecting firewood and being able to cook quicker on the Changu Changu Moto, I set up a small garden next to my house. I am growing beans, different vegetables and some maize, and in the main farm, I am growing maize.”
Memory only has to collect firewood every fortnight now instead of a couple of times a week. Just one of the many benefits of having a fuel-efficient cookstove.
