We are happy to share that Salima Fisheries Department, with support from Beach Village Committees, carried out confiscations of illegal monofilament fishing nets. A total of 21,400 metres of net were confiscated!
These illegal nets snap and break in the water and become “ghost” nets. This means that they continue to fish indefinitely, trapping and killing marine life long after the fishermen have gone.
This is a very important win for fish conservation. Huge well done to the team!
