It’s a crucial time for the sweet potato project’s multiplication farmers as they are growing the next season of sweet potato vines.
Francis, who manages the project, explained that as the vines start growing it’s easy to think all of the space is taken but beneath the green foliage is plenty more grow space to produce more vines.
He said, “We teach the farmers how to maximise their land by filling in the spaces. The vines can be planted 10cm apart and today we have identified lots of areas where there is space to add more vines so they can also multiply.”
These sweet potato vines will be harvested and distributed in February 2024 to 1,250 additional farmers.
