Many of you know that our fuel-efficient cookstoves reduce the amount of wood used for cooking and thus reducing the carbon emissions but did you know that through our project you can buy carbon offsets?

Our project is registered under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), operated and administered by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

In order to be able to sell offsets, we carry out something known as a Kitchen Performance Test. Through a series of tests that take place across numerous villages and households we are able to demonstrate the wood saving from the fuel-efficient cookstoves. This week we ran a training refresher course for the Project Managers and some of the Coordinators.

Each cookstove saves three tonnes of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) per year, a huge amount when we have 40,000 cookstoves built and in use.

Some of the other benefits include saving time and money, reducing injuries from burns and producing substantially less smoke, reducing coughing and breathing problems.
