Through our community fruit tree project we work with all members of the community including students at local schools.
Celebrating the fruit tree seedlings being planted out, each school had students performing poems, songs and dialogues including Catherine here.
Her poem is really beautiful and we wanted to share it with you.
“My name is Catherine Manda. I have a poem entitled It’s my responsibility.
It is my responsibility to care for the environment, our national gift. I have responsibility to mobilise and encourage my friends to plant trees around their homes because trees influence rain, give us medicine, fruits, and not forgetting, cover to the soil.
It is my responsibility to civic educate my community to plant different kinds of fruit trees. Fruits like guavas, lemons, tangerines, oranges and paw paws are important to us because they give us income after sale and medicine and vitamins when eaten.
It is my responsibility to encourage my community to care for the trees. Cutting down trees carelessly and having bush fires destroys the environment. Plant more trees brings harmony to the environment. It is my responsibility. Thank you.”
