You may remember reading in our Family Planning, Sexual Health and Life Skills project report that we were planning to trial a menstrual cup initiative.
The aim was not only to help girls be able to attend school every day of the month but there was a growing issue with girls seeking funds for their sanitary products in dangerous ways.
We are delighted to share that Rebecca, who co-runs the project, has received menstrual cup training from a Ruby Cup recommended trainer and has started working with girls in the community.
We received funding to trial this with 250 girls and if successful, we will seek further funding to roll out the project.
During this pilot phase we are working with Standard 7 pupils at six primary schools, Form 2 and 3 students at Kapanda Secondary School and a youth group.
The girls received their menstrual cups and training on how to use them before the end of term and we are looking forward to working with them during the next academic year. The feedback will allow us to troubleshoot any issues and monitor the progress and success of the project.
