Last week we introduced you to Priyanka, the little girl carrying the very big papaya. We asked you then how many papayas one tree might produce in a season and we are back to give you the answer!
On average, each tree will produce 100 papaya fruits within a season – and there are a couple of growing seasons in Malawi.
As most farmers are growing several papaya trees this means they will have a lot of fruit and they won’t be able to eat all of it. Therefore, they can sell the surplus fruit and earn an income. At the moment, one large papaya sells for around 2,000MWK (£1/$1.20).
