Our Fish Conservation project makes lots of people very happy more especially the fishermen. Through simple techniques such as protecting fish breeding areas and fishing with the correct fishing nets, fishermen are able to catch more fish and bigger fish.
During a recent visit to Salima District we met up with the Beach Village Committee operating under Chief Kawanga’s area. They explained that since 2020 they have seen a huge amount of change in the number of big fish they can catch.
However, they continue their patrols as fishermen from other areas have started to come in and illegally fish in the breeding areas.
To ensure the Committee feel empowered to confiscate illegal fishing gears and issue the relevant fines, our team will be provide training and continue working closely with them to address this problem.
