Forest friends now see the importance of trees in Malawi

The Kalani Forest Conservation Committee are happy as they feel they have finally found a happy relationship between people and the environment.

Visiting their protected forest area Simon, the Committee Chairman, said, “When we started the trees were like cherubs, little baby ones. Now they are growing and we want to transfer our knowledge to others so that the trees continue to grow.”

He continued, “People can see the benefits of having trees, even being able to forage for mushrooms saves us money. We are setting up more beehives too, we have seven but our vision is to have 50 so that we have a sustainable business which will help us help our children.”
