Why are they wearing hi-vis jackets to farm, I hear you say. Well, this year we are extending our vegetable and chicken project beyond the usual 100 Community Clubs with three different project areas.
We work with Beach Village Committees and Forest Conservation Committees who volunteer their time to protect their section of the lake or forest.
We also work with women and men’s group through our Family Planning and Sexual Project who become advocates in the community.
We are trialling the vegetable and chicken project with five groups from each project to see it if can create an income stream for the members so that they can continue to their important work on the project.
There has been training in making Mbeya manure, natural pesticides, sowing seed beds and growing vegetables.
By the end of July, the first vegetable harvest should go to market. We will let you know how they get on later this summer.
