Tiyamike joined our Disabilities and Rehabilitation project in November 2020 at the age of six months old.
Born missing her left hand and foot, her mother was referred to our group. Whilst she hasn’t been given a formal diagnosis, it is believed Tiyamike was affected by Amniotic Band Syndrome which can cause a number of different birth defects.
However, we are super grateful to work with the amazing team at 500 Miles in Mzuzu who fitted her with a prosthetic lower leg and foot just in time for her to celebrate her first birthday.
Matilda who runs our Disabilities and Rehabilitation project said, “Tiyamike is learning to stand independently and like other babies her age, is learning to walk. We will continue working with her now and in the future as she will need new prosthetics as she grows.”
