Have you ever wondered how people cook in rural Malawi during the rainy season when the trees are wet and damp?
Well, between October and December, women collect not only the firewood they need for cooking that week but extra firewood to store ready to use during the wet season.
Fortunately for the 125,000 households benefitting from one of our fuel-efficient cookstoves, they already save two bundles of wood per week so no longer have to collect quite as much to use during the rainy season. This is Christina’s wood store. She cooks for seven people but is happy with her cookstove.
Christina said, “One of my children had an accident when I was cooking on the three stone fire but with this cookstove, it is much safer. There is less smoke too, and it saves me time as it uses less firewood and cooks quicker. I am happy.”
