This is Fanwell out patrolling, and above, his photograph holding big chambo fish which has been circulated around the world. I guess you could say he is the ‘poster boy’ of our Fish for Tomorrow project.
Fanwell was one of the first fishermen to have faith in the project and fully trust that by adapting the way he fished and protecting the fish breeding areas, fishing, and life, would change for the better.
Since 2011 when we fist started, Fanwell’s life really has changed. He has been able to build houses, install electricity and send children and grandchildren to school and university.
Fanwell is still as passionate today as he was 13 years ago about fish conservation, and we are proud that this is achieved by empowering the community to take ownership of their section of the lake.
