Two members of Makuzi Beach Village Committee are Tina and Catherine. Both of their husbands are fishermen and they joined the Committee 10 years ago to help educate fishermen and the wider community on the need to fish sustainably.
Tina has three children, Catherine has four. They said “We visit the local primary school to teach the children about fish conservation. We also patrol the breeding area and visit the beaches to check that fishermen are using the correct gear.”
