Meet Charles Mkandawire, not only one of the tree farmers we are working with but a Chief too.
This is the second year that Charles, and his family, are planting trees. Two years ago he raised and planted out 4,000 seedlings which are doing really well.
He said, “We need trees for oxygen and we need a source of timber. This project will help end poverty (in our area) and gives my children a future.”
The father-of-five continued to explain that his two brothers are now raising seedlings after seeing how successful Charles was. They too are encouraged by how the project will improve their lives.
Charles continued, “We will be able to pay school fees and set up businesses. I would like a commercial farm where I can grow tomatoes, maize and vegetables.”
And for every tree planted, we protect three in an existing forest through our Forest Conservation project. Learn more here.
