It’s Book Lovers Day and one young lady that loves reading is Dyoss.
Dyoss is 11 and her mother, Ellen, runs the Children’s Reading Club. Dyoss attends one day a week. She said, “Reading books in English is helping me with my language skills. At reading club we practice reading and listening in English and play phonics games.”
She explained that many of her peers struggle with English but says that the reading club is the perfect place to come for help.
At Mwaya library Dyoss enjoys searching through the shelves to find new books to read. She particularly loves Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Brown, and any story she can find by Pat Schories.
She said, “Reading books helps me learn about plants and animals, and also teaches me about Malawi and other parts of the world.”
Dyoss will start Standard 6 when she returns to school after the holidays.
