It’s that time of year again when we distribute orange-fleshed sweet potato vines to farmers in five locations in Nkhata Bay District.
Within each location, known as an EPA, there are 250 farmers registered and each farmer receives 10 bundles of vines.
This will enable them to not only grow sweet potatoes for their family and any surplus for sale, but they will be able to produce more vines too which they can share with their neighbours so that others benefit from these improved varieties.
The farmers are taught how to preserve the vines after they harvest the sweet potato so that they have vines for future farming seasons too. Plant, share, eat – it really is as simple as that.
