Our tree planting project has expanded and is now running in Nkhotakota and Salima Districts.
Both of these Districts are heavily deforested and people struggle to collect firewood, often leaving in the early hours of the morning and not returning until the afternoon as they have to walk long distances to find any.
Both our fuel-efficient cookstove project and tree planting project are looking to address this struggle.
We shared the news that last year we built a further 85,000 cookstoves in three Districts in Malawi, including these two. We are now introducing a tree planting project but with the aim of providing a sustainable source of firewood.
Not only will this help the community source firewood easily but it will reduce the pressure on the remaining forests, allowing them to regenerate.
Linda and Wisdom are working with community clubs in both Districts and we look forward to seeing their progress later in the year when it comes to planting out.
